Each interval is known as a Pomodoro, from the Italian word for ‘tomato’, after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer that Cirillo used as a university student. The Pomodoro technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally twenty-five minutes in length, each separated by a short break. “I discovered that you could learn how to improve your effectiveness and be better able to estimate how long a task will take to complete by recording how you utilize your time.” The Pomodoro Technique, developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, is a very popular time management method. ![]()
